A Taste of China

Days 1-2 : Fly to Beijing

Fly to Beijing, China’s capital city.

Day 3 : Beijing Cooking Class

We begin with a stroll through the incredible Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the beautiful Forbidden City. Later, we get our first taste of China with a cooking class to learn the art of Chinese cooking, Beijing style! We’ll select and prepare the raw ingredients for three traditional dishes, learning the techniques involved. We also discover the Hutongs, my favourite part of Beijing.

Day 4 : Great Wall & Peking Duck

We’ll have an early start today, to step foot on the amazing Great Wall of China. After that, see a demonstration of local noodle making. Back in Beijing, we’ll have a sumptuous Peking Duck dinner where one of my handpicked local chefs will take you through the process of making this speciality.

Day 5 : Warriors & Xian Noodles

This morning we’ll fly to Xian to visit the awesome Terracotta Warriors. One of my highlights of Xian is the city’s colourful Muslim markets, which we’ll explore before taking dinner at a local noodle restaurant.

Day 6 : Dumpling Cooking Class

We’ll start the day with a tour of the local markets and the Ancient City Walls before beginning today’s master class. Prepare Xian’s speciality dumplings with an experienced local chef, who will guide you through the intricacies of constructing China’s famous, delicate parcels.

Day 7 : Huanglongxi & Hot Pot

This morning we fly to Chengdu, in the heart of China’s Sichuan Province. The region is famous for its flavoursome cuisine. We’ll get a taste of rural China as we drive through the countryside to visit the ancient town of Huanglongxi. Returning to Chengdu for our evening meal, tuck into one of the local speciality dishes, Sichuan Hot Pot.

Day 8 : Sichuan Cooking Class

This morning we visit a local cooking school to discover the intricacies of Sichuan cooking. A specialised local chef will be our guide as we select and prepare the freshest ingredients to create spicy Sichuan dishes. Next, we’ll make our way to the Panda Conservation Centre to meet these adorable animals. This evening walk down Chengdu’s famous Jinli Street which features traditional style buildings and vendors selling local snacks.

Day 9 : Shanghainese Cooking Class

Flying to Shanghai this morning, we’ll head to one of my favourite cooking schools for a traditional Shanghainese cooking class. This evening, walk down Nanjing Road for views of Shanghai at night – a truly spectacular sight.

Day 10 : Shanghai Markets

Start the day with a walk around Shanghai’s morning markets. Xintiandi and the French concession areas are a joy to explore. Then stroll through the beautiful Yu Gardens, the Old Town and along the famous Bund with its colonial architecture to complete the true Shanghai experience! This evening we’ll enjoy a farewell drink as we cruise along the Huangpu River at night.

Tour includes:

all international airfares and current taxes
