Mijas Andalucian Magic

Day 1: UK/Malaga
Depart on your scheduled flight to Malaga today. On arrival, transfer to Mijas, your base for the next six nights. After you’ve checked into your hotel, explore the village and select a restaurant for dinner this evening. You’ll find a fine selection of bars and restaurants in which to while away a few hours enjoying a refreshing drink and delicious local dishes. Why not take a traditional donkey taxi back to your hotel – just one of the old-style Spanish touches that makes Mijas so charming.

Day 2: Mijas and Fuengirola
To help you become acquainted with your new surroundings we include a half-day tour of Mijas and nearby Fuengirola today.

Mijas is a true pueblo blanco, or white village, with picturesque whitewashed houses lining its narrow, cobbled streets – many of which are free from traffic. Take in the views of the coast below as you stroll past shops selling local arts and crafts including hand-made Spanish ceramics, which make lovely souvenirs to take back home.

Overlooked by a medieval Moorish fortress, the popular resort of Fuengirola is home to a delightful old fishing port, impressive beaches and a delightful promenade lined with cafés, tapas bars and restaurants serving excellent seafood.

Enjoy the rest of the day at leisure exploring Mijas further or spending a relaxing afternoon around the pool back at your hotel.

Day 3: Ronda
Spend today at leisure in Mijas or join us on a three-quarter-day optional excursion to the picturesque clifftop town of Ronda. You’ll travel through the spectacular scenery of the Andalucian mountains before reaching Ronda, which stands on a towering plateau. It is divided in two by a 600ft deep gorge known as El Tajo which is spanned by an 18th century stone bridge, the Puente Nuevo, from where you can peer down to the waters of the River Guadalevin.

The older southern side of Ronda is a typical pueblo blanco so why not enjoy a stroll and admire its many cobbled alleyways lined with traditional whitewashed houses or stop off for a bite to eat before the return journey to your hotel.

Day 4: Granada
Today you have the opportunity to visit the magnificent Alhambra Palace on our pre-bookable optional full-day excursion. Built by the Moors in the 13th and 14th centuries on a hill overlooking Granada this impressive complex of pink-stone courtyards, pools, fountains, grand halls and the beautiful Generalife Gardens was the ruling caliphs’ idea of paradise on earth. See if you agree during your time here.

Later there will be free time for you to explore Granada independently, perhaps sampling some tapas or taking a stroll around the narrow whitewashed streets of the Albaicin, the Moorish quarter.

Day 5: Nerja and Frigiliana
After breakfast today you may choose to join our three-quarter-day optional excursion.

You’ll visit the pretty, hilltop village of Frigiliana, which is situated at the foothills of the Almijara Mountains and is a real delight to explore on foot. From here your journey continues to the eastern tip of the Costa del Sol and the coastal resort of Nerja. Wander around the old town before heading to the Balcón de Europa, an impressive clifftop promenade from where you can gaze down upon pretty beaches and coves.

Day 6: Gibraltar
It’s the final day of your holiday today, so you may wish to spend it at leisure soaking up the sunshine in your resort.

However, today we also offer an optional full-day excursion to Gibraltar. Known as ‘The Rock’ this promontory measures just 2.6 square miles and is home to about 25,000 people. You’ll take a tour of this little slice of Britain by mini-coach before enjoying free time to explore at your own pace. You must make sure you see the famous Barbary macaques while you are here; they are the only wild monkeys in Europe. However, remember to keep your wits about you as they are quite at home in the company of tourists and think nothing of grabbing unguarded cameras, sunglasses or anything else that takes their fancy while your back is turned! If you choose to take a cable-car ride to the top of The Rock, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of the Andalucian coastline.

Day 7: Malaga/UK
Your holiday comes to an end today when you will transfer to the airport in Malaga for your flight back to the UK.

To maximise your enjoyment of this holiday a certain amount of walking is essential.
