The island of Aruba is an autonomous dependency of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, located 15 miles north of the coast of Venezuela. The small island nation of Aruba is home to 80 nationalities – no surprise in light of its multi–cultural history. Amerindian, Latin and European influences are found in every aspect of life the people, in names of streets and attractions, in the four languages that are spoken daily, on restaurant menus; in architectural details; local art and music, stamps, currency and medicinal remedies.

Aruba is widely known for its white, sandy beaches on the western and southern coasts of the island, relatively sheltered from fierce ocean currents, and this is where most tourist development has taken place. The south coast is surrounded by coral reef and shallow coral formations await snorkellers, as well as over twenty dive sites and eleven diver–friendly wrecks.

The climate is tropical marine, with little seasonal temperature variation. Because of its location south in the Caribbean there is very strong sun, but a constant light breeze keeps the temperature pleasant. The temperature is almost constant at about 27C.

Aruba's crystal clear oceans and sparkling white beaches make it a very romantic getaway. Most of the people on the island speak English and are very friendly. Arubans are very aware that their economy is completely dependent on tourism – so Arubans are polite to tourists, and even street vendors don't generally seek to rip off their customers.
