Turks and Caicos Travel Guide

The Turks and Caicos Islands are only 37 miles long, and all together consist of 40 islands and cays. The Beautiful by Nature Turks and Caicos Islands are located in the British West Indies, 575 miles southeast of Miami, Florida. There are two main islands, Grand Turk (Turk Island) and Providenciales (Caicos Island). Of this archipelago of 40 islands, only 10 are inhabited.

With a warm, dry climate, friendly people and natural beauty it is not surprising that sixty percent of visitors return again and again. Safe, quiet and boasting world class accommodation, spas, and restaurants, the Turks and Caicos Islands are an ideal location for relaxation, romance, diving, snorkelling, family holidays and ecotourism. The Islands boast an unrivalled reef system and 193 square miles of pristine white sand beaches.

Many of the most popular beaches in the Turks and Caicos Islands are situated on Providenciales, including 12–mile–long Grace Bay Beach, voted the best beach in the world, which offers clear blue waters, white sand beaches and a wide variety of luxury hotel and villa rentals.

Each island has a different charm and character. In the capital of the islands, Grand Turk, visitors will love the pastel–shaded buildings and cobbled streets of the colonial town. Donkeys are still part of the traffic and youre never to far from a sugar white Caribbean beach.

Make sure you dont miss the amazing cave system on the island of Middle Caicos, also home to bats and some fascinating historical artefacts. And finally, the endless beaches of Providenciales and the rock iguanas on Little Water Cay.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are surrounded by one of the most extensive coral reef systems worldwide (65 miles across and 200 miles long). As a result, the islands are consistently ranked as one of the premier diving locations in the world. Excellent visibility (up to 200 feet), pristine reefs, abundant tropical flora and fauna, fish and other marine life, quality diving services and easy conditions make the Turks and Caicos Islands a world class diving destination. There is exceptional wall diving starting in shallow turquoise water and dropping off into the deep blue giving a real thrill. The reef is relatively close to the beach which makes for accessible beach dives. Shipwrecks, old and new further increase the multiplicity of the islands as an outstanding diving destination.
