Austrian Lakes

Day 1: UK/Munich
Depart on your scheduled flight to Munich today. On arrival you will transfer to your hotel in Weyregg, where you will stay for the next seven nights.

Weyregg is a pretty village situated on the eastern shore of Lake Attersee, the largest lake in the Austrian Alps. If you’re after picture-postcard Austria, this is the place for you with quaint homes decorated with flowering window boxes and pine-clad mountains providing a beautiful backdrop. During your stay here your Tour Manager will arrange an evening cruise across the lake so you can view it from the water. During moments of relaxation, make sure you allow time for afternoon kaffee und kuchen (coffee and cake) – a delicious local tradition.

Day 2: Hallstatt
Join your Tour Manager on an included three-quarter-day excursion today to the beautiful lakeside village of Hallstatt, which sits at the base of a mountain. Famous for its salt mines, which have been producing this valuable commodity for thousands of years, its pastel-painted houses seem to cling precariously to a narrow strip of land between the mountain and the lake, and its small size means that Hallstatt is easily explored on foot.

Day 3: Lakeland Tour
Boasting crystal-clear lakes and stunning mountain scenery, the Austrian Lake District is a really beautiful part of Europe and you can discover it on an optional full-day tour today. You’ll visit some of the prettiest spots in the Salzkammergut (Lake District), such as Mondsee, where fans of ‘The Sound of Music’ film will recognise the church from the wedding scene. You’ll also visit the picturesque village of St Gilgen, on the shores of the Wolfgangsee.

Day 4: Salzburg
Today we include a full-day tour to the ‘Sound of Music’ city Salzburg, one of Europe’s best preserved historic cities. The centre has hardly changed since the times of the famous Austrian composer Mozart, and you will discover Baroque domed churches, merchant houses and hidden arcaded courtyards are still dominated by the magnificent Hohensalzburg Fortress. Explore the old centre and discover Mozart’s Square, the magnificent Dom (cathedral) and the splendid Mirabell Gardens. If shopping is your passion, then a stroll along the narrow Getreidegasse is a must.

Day 5: Southern Bohemia
Spend today at leisure exploring your resort at your own pace. Alternatively, join our optional full-day visit to Southern Bohemia. You will cross the River Danube into the Czech Republic to visit the lovely old town of Cesky Krumlov, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a walk through the narrow winding streets lined with 13th century buildings to visit the Gothic church of St Vitus and the historic castle up on the cliffs above the Vltava River. The castle boasts classic interiors that date back to the Renaissance.

Day 6: Weyregg
Today is free for you to do as you wish. Explore the shores of Lake Attersee, which is just a short walk from your hotel. If you’ve plenty of energy, activities available locally include sailing, water-skiing, windsurfing, mountain biking and tennis, and there’s also a golf driving range.

Day 7: St Wolfgang
We’ll take you to another pretty lakeside resort today on an included three-quarter-day visit to St Wolfgang, home to the legendary White Horse Inn, made famous by the musical comedy of the same name.

Sat on the north shore of the Wolfgangsee and at the foot of Schafberg Mountain, St Wolfgang is a relaxed, picturesque village of narrow streets lined with tall, old buildings. Make sure you visit the church here – it boasts a spectacular Gothic altar that’s quite incongruous to the natural setting of the village.

Day 8: Munich/UK
Your holiday comes to an end today when you transfer to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
