Days 1-2 : Fly to Shanghai

Fly overnight to the cosmopolitan city of Shanghai.

Day 3-4 : Discover Shanghai

Sightseeing today includes a stroll through the beautiful Yu Gardens and the Old Town. Walk along the famous Bund featuring colonial architecture and explore the restored Xintiandi area with its unique 1920’s style Shikumen buildings. The next day explore modern Pudong, see the superb antiquities and fine arts of the renowned Shanghai museum, and enjoy the panoramic views from a Huangpu River cruise. In the evening sample traditional Shanghai cuisine.

Day 5 : Historic Suzhou

Travel to the charming city of Suzhou, also known as the Venice of the East. Visit two of the finest oriental gardens, the Humble Administrator’s Garden and the Master of the Nets Garden and a local silk mill still in operation today.

Day 6 : Grand Canal & Wuzhen

Cruise on the thousand year old Grand Canal and then escape to traditional Wuzhen. Home to an intricate system of canals, old wooden waterside houses, arch stone bridges, narrow cobblestone streets and an abundance of local handicrafts, Wuzhen is renowned for its old-world charm and picturesque setting. Take time to explore before continuing to the ancient imperial capital, Hangzhou.

Day 7 : Imperial Hangzhou

Visit the Temple of Inspired Seclusion, Six Harmonies Pagoda, and travel to the tea farms outside Hangzhou to experience an oriental tea tasting. In the afternoon enjoy a relaxing cruise on West Lake.

Day 8 : Fly to Guilin

Fly to the beautiful city of Guilin.

Days 9-10 : Li River Cruise

Cruise the stunning Li River to Yangshuo and enjoy the landscape of limestone hills, fishing scenes and picturesque villages. The following morning discover the beautiful rural countryside around Yangshuo. The afternoon is at leisure and there are many activities available (arranged locally at extra cost) including cycling, rafting and walking or you may choose to relax in the town. In the evening see the cormorant fishermen.

Day 11 : Fly to Chengdu

Drive back to Guilin and visit the colourful stalagmites and stalactites of Reed Flute Caves before flying to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. The area is renowned for its lush landscapes and cuisine.

Day 12 : Grand Buddha of Leshan

Travel to Leshan to visit the Grand Buddha, the world’s largest stone-carved Buddhist statue. We take a short boat trip to view the statue from the river. Return to Chengdu, visiting the old town of Huanglongxi en-route. Enjoy a delicious Sichuan meal in the evening.

Day 13 : Pandas, train to Xian

Visit the famous Panda Conservation Centre to see these charismatic animals being reared in wooded surroundings reminiscent of their natural habitat before boarding the overnight train to Xian, the ancient former capital.

Days 14-15 : Terracotta Warriors

Arrive in Xian and visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Shui Jiao dumpling meal followed by a performance of Tang Dynasty dancing. The next day, visit one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th century – the Terracotta Warriors, and walk along the Ancient City Wall.

Day 16 : Xian, train to Beijing

Visit the renowned Shaanxi Museum which is home to thousands of priceless relics. We also stroll through the lively Muslim Quarter to explore the Islamic food markets before boarding the overnight train to Beijing, China’s capital city.

Days 17 : Temple of Heaven

Arrive in Beijing and visit the unique Temple of Heaven where you can see locals gather to practice Tai Chi, sing folk songs and play chess.

Day 18 : Great Wall of China

Walk on the 2,000 year old Great Wall and admire the panoramic views. China’s most iconic attraction, the Great Wall stretches over 4,000 miles from east to west.

Day 19 : Forbidden City & Beijing

Sightseeing today includes a stroll through Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the treasure-filled Forbidden City. We also tour the exquisite Summer Palace. Our evening meal includes the local delicacy, Peking Duck.

Day 20 : Fly Beijing to UK

Fly to the UK, arriving home the same or following day.
