Days 1-2 : Fly to Beijing

Fly overnight to Beijing, China’s capital city.

Day 3 : Great Wall of China

Walk on the Great Wall, visit the unique Temple of Heaven and see a fascinating Chinese Acrobat show in the evening. Our evening meal includes the local delicacy, Peking Duck.

Days 4-5 : Imperial Chengde

Travel by train to Chengde and visit the Imperial Mountain Villas and the exceptional temples built for Tibetan and Mongolian warlords. The next day, visit the temples of Puning and Puyou before returning by train to Beijing..

Day 6 : Forbidden City

Sightseeing today includes a stroll through Tiananmen Square, past Chairman Mao’s Mausoleum to the treasure-filled Forbidden City. We also tour the exquisite Summer Palace before boarding the overnight train to Xian, the former ancient capital

Days 7-8 : Terracotta Warriors, Xian

Arrive in Xian and visit the Little Wild Goose Pagoda. In the evening, sample a traditional Shui Jiao dumpling meal followed by a performance of Tang Dynasty dancing. The next day, visit one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the 20th century – the Terracotta Warriors and walk along the Ancient City Walls..

Day 9 : Explore Xian, train to Wuhan

Visit the renowned Shaanxi Museum which is home to thousands of priceless relics. We also stroll through the lively Muslim Quarter to explore the Islamic food markets before boarding the overnight train to Wuhan.

Day 10 : Drive to Yichang

Arrive in Wuhan and visit the Yellow Crane Tower and East Lake. Travel to Yichang to board the Yangtze River Cruise vessel.

Days 11-13 : Yangtze River Cruise

Tour the Three Gorges Dam before cruising upstream through some of the most dramatic scenery in the world. Over the next three days, we will take a sidetrip to the striking Goddess Stream or visit the Lesser Three Gorges and enjoy various other shore excursions along the way.

Day 14 : Drive to Chengdu

Disembark from our cruise vessel this morning to explore the living ancient town of Ciqikou before transferring to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province.

Day 15 : Panda Conservation Centre

Visit the famous Panda Conservation Centre to see these charismatic animals being reared in wooded surroundings reminiscent of their natural habitat. Later, visit Mt Qincheng and explore the colourful markets. Enjoy a delicious Sichuan meal in the evening. Overnight in Chengdu.

Day 16 : Fly to Zhongdian

Fly to the Tibetan town of Zhongdian (via Kunming), recently renamed Shangri-La.

Days 17-18 : Tibetan Zhongdian

Tour Zhongdian’s Old Town and a traditional Tibetan village before visiting Songshanlin Monastery, built by the 5th Dalai Lama over 300 years ago. The next day Explore the Baishui Terrace, where spring water cascades over layers of white limestone pools.

Day 19 : Tiger Leaping Gorge

Visit Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the most dramatic and deepest gorges in the world and take in the surrounding breathtaking scenery before continuing to Lijiang.

Day 20 : Jade Dragon Mountain

Visit the impressive Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which soars to a height of 5,500m. We take a chairlift to explore one of the highest meadows and enjoy the amazing panoramas before touring the Baisha Frescoes. Overnight in Lijiang.

Day 21 : Black Dragon Pool, Lijiang

Wander through the quaint cobbled streets and meandering canals of Lijiang’s UNESCO listed Old Quarter before visiting Black Dragon Pool. Travel to Dali and explore the lively Foreigners Street.

Days 22-23 : Enchanting Dali

Explore Dali’s Ancient Quarter and visit Xizhou Village to explore the bustling local market and the Yen Family House, an ancient courtyard home and witness a tie-dye demonstration. The next day, visit the Three Pagodas and travel by road to Kunming. In the evening sample the famous Across the Bridge Noodles.

Day 24 : Kunming Stone Forest

Explore the surreal limestone images and columns of the UNESCO listed Stone Forest. Overnight in Kunming.

Days 25-26 : Fly Kunming to UK

Fly to the UK, arriving home the following day.
