Flavour of the Fjords

Day 1 Southampton
We begin with Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service® to Southampton, where our staff will greet you and assist with embarking Balmoral in readiness for a late afternoon sailing.

Day 2 At Sea
A day at sea provides the perfect way to settle into onboard life. The social programme offers a choice of lectures, providing fascinating insights into the ports of call that lie ahead, craft classes, concerts and films.

Day 3 Haugesund
Early this afternoon, Balmoral arrives in the small town of Haugesund, steeped in Viking history. You may wish to walk one of the many hiking trails, taking in the views of the beautiful coastline, spectacular waterfalls, majestic fjords and mountains and perhaps visiting one of the numerous burial mounds dating from the Viking period.

Day 4 Flam
This morning we arrive in the tiny village of Flåm, nestled at the end of Aurlandsfjord. Whilst here you may wish to take an optional shore excursion on the world famous Flåm railway. The train travels to Myrdal, ascending to 867 metres (2,844 feet) within just 50 minutes, before heading towards Voss – set amidst one of western Norway’s best agricultural areas. You will pass lovely farms, orchards, lakes and rivers before the coach begins to make the exhilarating descent of Stalheim’s Kleivene – Europe’s steepest road with a gradient of 1 in 5. There are magnificent views at each of the 13 hairpin bends. Late afternoon sailing.

Day 5 Olden
The ship arrives this morning in the picturesque village of Olden, situated at the tip on the innermost arm of Nordfjord, where steep mountains tower over both sides of the valley. A choice of excursions are available, including a visit to the mighty Jostedal Glacier where you can relax and take in the views on a 12-mile trip by boat down Lovatnet Lake or alternatively a hike up a track that ascends high above a waterfall to observe the range of blues and turquoises that the Ice of the Briksdal Glacier reflects. Late afternoon sailing.

Day 6 Bergen
Early afternoon arrival in the ‘City of the Seven Hills’, where you have the option to join a shore excursion by coach that illustrates the dramatic change in way of life that the local population have experienced during the last century, as it tours through the beautiful outskirts of Bergen in the fjord, lake and coastal districts. Whilst here you may also like to explore the attractive renovated waterfront area with its colourful mix of cobbled streets, charming houses from the Hanseatic period, colonnaded shops and fascinating fish market. We sail late this evening.

Day 7 Stavanger
This morning we visit the attractive town of Stavanger, which occupies a picturesque setting close to the sea, forests and mountains at the entrance to Gandsfjord. Whilst here you may like to experience a panoramic city tour where you will discover the highlights of Stavanger including the spectacular views of the fjords and the city. The optional excursion also includes a visit to Old Stavanger – North Europe’s best preserved wooden village, dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Late afternoon sailing.
