In the Footsteps of Pilgrims

Day 1 London – Oporto
We begin with Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service® to London Heathrow or London Gatwick Airport and our direct scheduled TAP Air Portugal flight to Oporto during which a light meal will be provided. On arrival, we will be transferred to the 4* Mercure Porto Centro Hotel in Oporto.

Day 2 Oporto – Leon
After a leisurely breakfast, we travel northeast towards Spain and the historic city of Leon, one of the most diverse provinces in Spain. Leon is renowned for its picturesque villages and surrounding landscapes, featuring awe-inspiring countryside and mountain ranges, a true hidden gem of the Castilla region. We will commence with our guided walking tour which will take us to the Cathedral, one of the outstanding monuments of Europe and which took over 200 years to construct with almost 1800 square metres of stunning stained glass windows. We also venture to the famous Basilica of San Isidro and stop at the San Marcelo Square, where our guide will give an explanation about the different monumental buildings that surround it, such as Gaudi’s Casa Botines. Following this, we arrive at the 4* Conde Luna Hotel or similar, where we will stay for the next two nights.

Day 3 Leon
Today you are free to further explore the city at your own pace.

Day 4 Leon – Oviedo
This morning we leave behind the history of Leon and head towards the fascinating old Spanish city of Oviedo, founded in 761. It is a cultural city and the capital of the Principality of Asturias, a region referred to as ‘green Spain’. Oviedo is a city designed for people rather than cars and therefore it is largely pedestrianised.
We have arranged a walking tour of Oviedo, allowing you to further acquaint yourself with its many squares and local architecture. A precursor to the Gothic and pre-Romanesque style of art has brought something unique to this cultural city. On route, we visit the landmarks of the theatre Campoamor and the gothic cathedral “San Salvador”. We pass through the medieval streets of Oviedo to visit the University and the traditional market “Fontan” and continue towards the historical quarters surrounded by a diverse selection of UNESCO World Heritage monuments.
The rest of the day is at leisure and this evening we stay at the 4* AC Hotel or similar in Oviedo.

Day 5 Gijon – Oviedo
This morning we depart for Gijon, a medieval coastal town, and home to one of the main ports in Northern Spain. Whilst here, we have arranged a guided tour of Gijon, in which we visit the Laboral University from which we can gain a panoramic view over the town and also have the opportunity to visit the old quarter. Following some free time in Gijon to have lunch, we return to Oviedo, where the remainder of the day is at leisure before dinner is served at the hotel this evening.

Day 6 Oviedo – La Coruna
After breakfast, we commence our journey west along the northern coast of Spain, enjoying the splendid scenery that it entails, then on to the city of La Coruna, an integral part of the Galicia community. Its combination of a contemporary feel, vast green landscapes and the mystic charm of rich Celtic & Roman heritage is a joy to behold.
We continue towards our hotel, the 4* Hotel Hesperia A Coruna, where we will spend the night. On arrival we begin our panoramic guided tour of the spectacular marina promenade until the Torre Hercules, which is the Roman lighthouse of the city. It has been declared a World Heritage monument and has been in continuous operation for almost 2,000 years. Willing climbers may wish to ascend the 239 steps to the top of the tower, where you can enjoy magnificent views over the city.
We continue our tour with a walk around the old quarter of the town, featuring the Garden of San Carlos, Santa Barbara square, Colegiata and Santiago churches and head towards the main square of Maria Pita.

Day 7 La Coruna – Santiago de Compostela
Today, we make a short journey south towards our next destination, Santiago. Upon our arrival, we have a guided walking tour of Santiago, which takes us through the historical old quarter, a living museum of meandering, narrow streets featuring Romanesque and Baroque architectural splendours.
We have an external visit of St Francisco Church, Obradoiro square and the monuments that surround it, we continue pass the Kings Catholic Hotel, once a hospital, visit the Quintana square and view St Pelayo Monastery. The remainder of the day is free for you to explore one of Spain’s most beautiful cities, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is famed throughout the world as the destination for millions of pilgrims who have walked the path of the Camino de Santiago (the Way of St James) for over a thousand years.
Following our tour, there is free time before we check into the elegant 4* AC Palacio del Carmen Hotel, which was once the Oblatas Convent and has retained some characteristic details of the ancient building, combining history with a modern flair.

Day 8 Cape Finisterre
This morning we depart for Cape Finisterre, the final destination for many pilgrims on the Way of St James. Cape Finisterre has some magnificent beaches but is also home to the ‘Costa da Morte’. With a guided tour showing us the main sights of the area, including the Fisterra Lighthouse. We continue to Muros where we will have time for lunch before visiting Noia for a panoramic tour of the area. We return to Santiago de Compostela later this evening.

Day 9 Santiago de Compostela – Viana do Castelo
We transfer south towards Portugal and the quaint town of Viana do Castelo, an undiscovered tourist attraction with a rich historic old centre, with Renaissance and Manueline architecture, handicrafts and colourful regional costumes. Here we have a guided tour, in which you can see the mystical sculptures and gothic style architecture, such as the Misericordia house and the church of Sao Domingos. The afternoon is at leisure for you to explore the town at your own pace. Our hotel for tonight is the 4* Hotel Axis Viana.

Day 10 Oporto
Today, we conclude our journey by returning to Oporto, where the remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy the sights of Oporto or simply relax at the 4* Mercure Porto Centro Hotel and savour all that has been seen throughout the tour.

Day 11 Oporto – London
