Land of the Midnight Sun

Day 1 Southampton
Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service® transports you from your front door to Southampton where our staff will greet you and assist with embarking Balmoral in readiness for a late afternoon sailing.

Day 2-3 At Sea
As we cruise towards Norway, a few days at sea provide the perfect opportunity for you to settle into onboard life and explore the splendid amenities onboard Balmoral.

Day 4 Alesund
Today we arrive in charming Alesund, among Norway’s most picturesque and atmospheric fishing ports; rich in enchanting Art Nouveau architecture of towers, turrets and medievalromantic facades, often with intriguing echoes of ancient Nordic tradition. Late afternoon sailing.

Day 5-6 Crossing the Arctic Circle – Tromso
We cross the Arctic Circle today and arrive late tonight into Tromso, capital of northern Norway spread across two islands, now linked to the mainland by a spectacular bridge. Founded essentially by traders, fur trappers and fishermen, it is now a busy commercial centre.
A selection of optional excursions will be available here including the opportunity to explore Tromso and its surrounds, a fascinating blend of old and new, with modest wooden houses surrounded by contemporary architecture and with a backdrop of impressive mountain peaks.
You may choose to take a ride on a cable car to enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the city or to visit the Tromso museum, founded in 1872. We sail late afternoon on day 6.

Day 7 Honningsvag
Honningsvag is a beautiful town and one of the most northerly inhabited places in Europe, lying well within the Arctic Circle. There will be an optional excursion available to the North Cape Plateau. You may be lucky enough to see reindeer grazing on the seemingly wild and desolate landscape. On top of the majestic cliff formation that represents the final frontier to the Arctic Ocean and, at 307 metres above the sea, sits the North Cape Hall, where you can view a film depicting the region through the seasons, browse in the shops, or if the weather is fine, experience the panorama of the Arctic Ocean from the Globe, near the edge of the cliff. This is a place where the scenery, the Midnight Sun and the sense of standing at the very edge of the world never ceases to fascinate visitors. Late night sailing.

Day 8 At Sea
A day at sea to relax. Perhaps enjoy a game of cards, read in the library or take part in the extensive programme of onboard activities.

Day 9 Leknes, Lofoten Islands
Today we cruise the Lofoten Islands, the beautiful mountainous chain of islands renowned for enchanting seascapes and fjord waters.

Day 10 At Sea
A leisurely day to stroll around the deck, enjoy a drink at the bar or perhaps pamper yourself in the spa.

Day 11 Molde
Early morning arrival in Molde, situated on the north side of the Moldefjord and sheltered on the north and west by a range of hills. One of Norway’s largest folk museums, the Romsdal Museum, is located in Molde and several other buildings from around the region were moved here to form a cluster. Late afternoon sailing.

Day 12 Bergen
Enjoy a full day in Bergen, with its dramatic mountain backdrop, and where you can easily explore the attractive renovated waterfront area with its colourful mix of cobbled streets, charming houses from the Hanseatic period, colonnaded shops and fascinating fish market. Whilst here, you may choose to take an optional excursion to the lakeside home of composer Edvard Grieg at Troldhaugen, set amid glorious countryside, or perhaps an enjoyable trip to the top of Mount Floeyen with its panoramic views. We sail in the late afternoon.

Day 13 Stavanger
Early morning arrival in Stavanger, situated in the southwest of Norway in a picturesque setting close to the sea, forests and mountains at the entrance to the Gandsfjord. Here we suggest joining an optional excursion to discover the highlights of Stavanger on a panoramic city tour. You will drive along the harbour and cross the bridge for spectacular views of the fjords and the city, including Stavanger Cathedral.
You will then visit ‘three swords’ monument, where you will learn how the Viking King Herald Fairhair formed the Kingdom of Norway.
As you drive back along the harbour, you will pass by the characteristic Petroleum Museum building and Old Stavanger – North Europe’s best preserved wooden village, dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Early afternoon sailing.

Day 14 At Sea
Our final day at sea. Perhaps perfect your skills at deck quoits or shuffleboard, test your golf swing or enjoy a game of deck tennis.

Day 15 Southampton
Early morning arrival back in Southampton where our staff will greet you and transfer you to Titan transport for your journey home to your own front door.
