The Okavango Delta and Chobe Safari with Awe-Inspiring Victoria Falls

Day 1 London – In flight
Titan’s VIP Home Departure Service® transports you from your front door to London Heathrow Airport for your direct, scheduled South African Airways flight to Johannesburg.

Day 2 Victoria Falls
We arrive into Johannesburg and connect with our onward flight to Livingstone. On arrival we transfer to the Zambezi Sun hotel for a two night stay. Our hotel is located on the banks of the Zambezi River, just a short stroll from the falls themselves. The remainder of the day is yours to relax and enjoy the facilities.

Day 3 Victoria Falls
In November 1855 the famous Scottish explorer and missionary Doctor David Livingstone became the first European to set eyes on what the natives called ‘the smoke that thunders’. He remarked that the scenes were so lovely they ‘must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight’. We commence our day at the fascinating Livingstone Museum, which is entrusted with an array of original memorabilia, including many personal letters, before continuing to the falls themselves. Our tour discovers natural beauty that is quite simply beyond belief, with stops at several vantage points to witness the sheer force of the water cascading over 90 metres to the bottom of the Zambezi gorge. Late in the afternoon we enjoy an included sundowner cruise on the Zambezi, where we hope to glimpse crocodile and hippo, before returning to our hotel.

Day 4 Victoria Falls – Chobe
This morning we head to the border and actually cross into Botswana during a boat crossing of the Zambezi. We continue to the Cresta Mowana Safari Lodge or Chobe Safari Lodge for a two night stay. Both lodges are located on the banks of the Chobe River, which fl ows into the mighty Zambezi, on the border with Chobe National Park. After some time to freshen up at our lodge, where rooms overlook the river, we embark on an exciting wildlife spotting cruise. Elephant, hippo and a profusion of birdlife are frequently admired from your vessel.

Day 5 Chobe National Park
Chobe National Park, Botswana’s first, is known for its growing elephant population, now numbering in the tens of thousands. Today you are at leisure to enjoy the facilities of your lodge or partake in an optional game drive into the park in search of large herds of elephant, plus buffalo, lion and other game species that reside in the area.

Day 6 Chobe – Nata
We leave the Chobe River and head south east to Nata, passing forest reserves where wildlife sightings are common. We stay for two nights at the Nata Lodge, either in stilted chalets or luxury meru tents built onto wooden decks (both en-suite with the same amenities – make your choice at time of booking). Why not relax on the attractive patio or take a swim in the pool before dinner.

Day 7 Makgadikgadi Salt Pans
This morning we rise early for our visit to the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, the largest system of such pans in the world, covering an incredible area. Once part of a vast ancient lake that covered much of which is now Botswana, it is now famous for its remote, inhospitable, but absolutely stunning landscapes, where focal depth is almost endless through shimmering heat-haze to the horizon. Our excursion today is taken in an open safari vehicle to ensure the best experience.

Day 8 Nata – Maun
Today we travel west across Botswana to Maun, gateway to the Okavango Delta. En-route we pass vast open plains, before arriving at the Maun Lodge for an overnight stay. Our comfortable lodge is situated on the banks of the Thamalakane River a few kilometres from the centre of town.

Day 9 Maun – Khwai
For the remainder of our holiday we utilise classic open safari vehicles to ensure the best game viewing opportunities. We leave Maun and the sparse scrubland of the Kalahari gives way to the breathtaking waterscapes of the Okavango Delta. This remarkable ‘river that never reaches the sea’ comprises of up to 16,000km of lagoons, channels and islands – a freshwater oasis that attracts a mesmerising array of exotic animals and birds. Most of the day is spent game viewing en-route to the Moremi Game Reserve, which now covers 20 percent of the Okavango Delta, and is considered to be one of the most beautiful wildlife areas in Africa. Camping has long been a popular way of enjoying safari stays in remote locations, and we stay for three nights at our privately pitched camp in comfortable ‘Meru’ tents, located in the concession that borders the reserve. Take time to familiarise yourself with the camp and settle into your tent before dinner is served.

Day 10 Moremi Game Reserve
We enter the Moremi Game Reserve and embark on a full day game drive. Areas of permanent water together with more arid regions make up this reserve, which covers a large section of the Delta’s eastern side. Experience excellent savannah game viewing as well as bird watching on the lagoons. Wooded areas are home to the rare leopard. The reserve is host to many hundred species of bird, from water birds to forest dwellers and a vast array of other wildlife such as lion, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, leopard, hyena, jackal and impala.

Day 11 Khwai River
This morning our game drive takes us to the Khwai River area in order to view the birdlife and the interaction of wildlife that comes on the riverbank. We return to our camp later for brunch before some free time to enjoy the camp surroundings. Later we set out for an early evening game drive in the Khwai concession. Keep an eye out for nocturnal species as we search the area before returning to camp for our final night.

Day 12 Khwai – In flight
Today we transfer to Maun Airport for our flight to Johannesburg and onward connecting South African Airlines flight to London.

Day 13 London
Arrival at London Heathrow Airport where our staff will greet you and transfer you to Titan transport for the return journey home to your own front door.
